FFUNDED Overnight and Weekend Holding Rules
These two rules get confused constantly, and the confusion costs accounts. Weekend holding and overnight holding are different things at FFUNDED, they are governed by different rules, and only one of them costs money.
Weekend holding is free on every plan
Holding positions through the weekend close is allowed on every FFUNDED plan, at no extra cost, with no add-on to buy. There is nothing to breach here.
Because the weekend hold is free, the Friday 17:00 New York close is not treated as an overnight rollover either. An account without Swap-Free keeps its Friday positions and takes no warning for them. This is a deliberate carve out rather than an oversight.
What weekend holding does carry is market risk. Markets can reopen away from where they closed on Friday, and both loss limits are measured on the first prices of the new week. A weekend gap can move your account against the limits before you can act on it, which is a genuine reason to size down into a weekend even though the rule permits the hold.
Overnight holding needs Swap-Free
Swap-Free is an optional add-on bought with the account, and it is what allows positions to be carried past the daily rollover at 17:00 New York time.
Without it, a position still open at a weeknight rollover is closed automatically and the account takes a formal warning for overnight holding. With it, you can hold a position overnight and run a longer term trade.
The rule runs on the Monday to Thursday rollovers only. Four rollovers a week, not five, and not seven.
The warning ladder
The first time positions are closed at the rollover, the account takes a formal warning and keeps trading. Holding overnight again on another day breaches the account.
One detail is worth reading twice: every position open at the same rollover counts as one occurrence, not one each. A trader caught with six positions open at 17:00 on a Tuesday has taken one warning, not six. That is meaningfully more forgiving than the alternative, but it still means the second night ends the account.
Which rollovers matter
| Rollover | Treated as | Without Swap-Free |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Thursday, 17:00 New York | Daily rollover | Positions closed, warning taken |
| Friday, 17:00 New York | Weekend close | Positions kept, no warning |
Getting 17:00 New York into your own timezone is the practical work here. Traders who think in local midnight, or who assume the rollover follows their broker's server time, are the ones who get surprised. Our guide to trading sessions covers where that hour falls across the trading day.
Deciding whether to buy Swap-Free
The question is not whether overnight holding is nice to have; it is whether your strategy structurally requires it.
If you are an intraday trader who is flat by the New York close on most days, you probably do not need it, and buying it is insurance against your own occasional lateness rather than a strategic purchase. If you are a swing trader, a trend follower, or anyone whose stops sit far enough away that a position naturally runs for days, then the add-on is not optional in any real sense. Without it your strategy cannot be executed at all, because every position you open is force closed at 17:00 the same day.
The middle case is the awkward one. A trader who holds overnight occasionally, perhaps once or twice a month around a specific setup, gets exactly one free mistake before the account breaches. That is not a margin worth running on. Either buy the add-on or build the 17:00 close into your rules as a hard flat time and treat it as non negotiable.
Pricing for the add-on sits on the pricing page, and the full rule text is in the trading rules.
Frequently asked questions
Can I hold trades over the weekend on FFUNDED?
Yes, on every plan, free, with no add-on required. The Friday 17:00 New York close is treated as the weekend close rather than a daily rollover, so positions carried into the weekend are neither closed nor warned. Be aware that weekend gaps still count against both loss limits when the market reopens.
Do I need Swap-Free to hold trades overnight?
Yes. Swap-Free is the add-on that allows a position to be carried past the 17:00 New York daily rollover. Without it, a position still open at a Monday to Thursday rollover is closed automatically and the account takes a formal warning.
What happens the second time I hold overnight without Swap-Free?
The account breaches. The first occurrence is a formal warning and trading continues; a second occurrence on another day ends the account. Every position open at the same rollover counts as a single occurrence rather than one per position.
Does the overnight rule apply on Friday nights?
No. The rule runs on the Monday to Thursday rollovers only. Friday at 17:00 New York is the weekend close, and because weekend holding is free on every plan, positions held through it take no warning.
